Mercrusier Transom assemblies and compatibilities?

Will any MC transom assembly work on any alpha (1, II, Gen ?) and bravos? If I go on line looking for a replacement do I have to be specific????? I may need a replacement for alpha gen II and have found one on line but seller doesn't know if it was specifically for Gen II.

Ayuh,.... The transom assemblies change by model, 'n by vintage, so No, they're not anywhere near all the same,.....

If ya need an Alpha, Gen.II, that's what ya need,...

Note the inner width difference on the gimbal ring between pre alpha/alpha and the Gen 2.
