My first post here, so bear with me. Found an older Chriscraft with a 1960 Evinrude 18 Fastwin. Hasn't been started since '99 but kept in basement. A fresh water motor that looks really nice, but haven't had cover off yet and am going to meet the owner and try and start it tomorrow. I mentioned that the unknown condition of the motor makes the price negotiable for the boat and motor. I guess I am wondering what the value of the motor is, as is. If it runs of course the value would go up and it probably will as it has had good maintenance and care according to the owner. What can a guy expect to pay for an impeller (waterpump), coils and basic tune up? He has the boat and motor and trailer at $1200. I'm thinking $800 with the unknowns. What do you think?

Welcome aboard, Boyd.
Lot of unknowns here. Pics would help. Condition is the key factor though.
Basic tuneups can be done for cheap with the help of a service manual and the members of this forum. Hope the show and tell goes well. Be sure to keep us posted. Good luck.

The motor must have been put too bed nicely in'99, as it started after about 10 pulls. The compression seems very good on the pull and she idled smoothly. Seems the water pump is good with a good amount of water exiting thru the exhaust, I engaged the transmission and she shifted nicely into both fwd and rev. I will take pics with the shroud off if I buy it. All the rubber lines and mounts look brand new. Originally $1200. He wants $1000, I mentioned 800. The motor seems very nice and sort of a collectors type of item too. The AlumaCraft is in good shape for the year it is. The trailer too, as it has bearing buddies and only needs new tail lights. Is the whole shebang worth the $900. Thanks for your comments Jasper.
