Bad battery??

I recently replaced the rectifier on my 1987 Johnson 88 spl due to the fact that it was fried. Afterwards I noticed when I put multimeter on the battery while it was running the battery was at 12.2 volts but then when I shut off the motor it dropped to 11.9 and an hour later it was down to 11.7. I installed a perko switch and turned it to off as soon as I shut off the motor. My question is would a bad battery be the reason for the drop in volts when the perko switch is off? It seems like both the rectifier and stator are doing their job becuase the battery is at 12.2 volts when running. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Your voltage while running is too low. It should be at least 13.5 volts for the battery to charge. Due to not being charged, the battery may be damaged.

Thanks for the reply! I guess I'll have to go back and check the stator. Correct me if I'm wrong but if the rectifier is new now then it has to be the stator is bad if I'm only getting 12.2 volts?

Are you sure how accurate your voltmeter is? Check it with your car or truck battery. Should show close to 14 or so volts running and around 12.8 with the engine off.

Just because the rectifier is new, it doesn't mean that it is working.

Defective parts get delivered every day.

Thank yall for your replies. Is there a way in can test the output from the stator to see if it's creating enough volts before it gets to the rectifier? Thanks again for your help
