Port side neutral throttle button won't engage on my Quicksilver throttle control. Starboard side works fine. It worked just a few weeks ago. Took the cover off and looked inside. Sprayed PB blaster, then Corrosion X inside hoping it would free things up and help the operation in general (boat has been sitting for 5 years). Noticed a few pieces inside of orange plastic that looked broken, wondering if that is related. I've heard the neutral button not working is a common problem with these Quicksilver throttle consoles. I may be able to pull the console off and get to it from underneath, it looks very difficult to get to the moving parts from the top. I have not been able to find a manual online anywhere... Anyone have any ideas?

Sounds like a Commander 3000. Rocking the handle while you apply pressure to the button helps when they are cranky. To get at it you have to remove the T handle and the mounting screws to the bulkhead. Set screw holding the T handle is servicable from the rear if the throttle it in the full advanced position. Don't be surprised if the hex allen set screw doesn't budge or if you can get it out, the handle doesn't want to come off the shaft. Now how do you suppose I know this? I HATE THAT BOX!!!!!!!!!

Now I have to figure out how to stop my new t-stats from leaking out of the housings (2 out of 4 are leaking). The gaskets seem to be a compression type where the outside of the gasket expands as pressure is applied. Unfortunately it seems to be a manufacturer defect as the gasket does not completely cover the opening on the head where the t-stat fits into, so not only does it leak water out of the head, but water also is allowed to circulate through the cooling system before the temp of 140f is reached which would run the motor cold for longer...

Any ideas or solutions? I know making a gasket around the housing would help leakage out of the head but wouldn't fix premature water circulation...

What engine? How about a picture. 4 stats? This is a Merc Mariner OB site so I suppose you are talking about such in 2 and 4 stroke. Son Had a 150 V Merc 2 stroker and it had one at the top of each bank of cylinders for a total of 2 per the engine.

1998 150XL OS 2 stroke. 2 t-stats per engine, 1 per head. Figured it out. One of the heads had a hole for the t-stat that was 1/8" bigger than the other 3 holes!!! This head also had threads that stripped on one of the bolt holes when I put the t-stat housing back on the engine. Seems fishy, like someone had done some work on this head and drilled the hole bigger for some reason. Anyways I cut paper gaskets and installed the t-stats with these and no more leaks
