HI, I've had my boat (1996 regal commodore) sitting for over a year, took it out today tried to start: it cranks but does not start, any ideas?

Fixed the same problem in my boat over the weekend, fuel screen at the carb was all gummed up. It is built into the carb where the fuel line attaches on my boat, had to take the carb off to get to it. Also could be a tank full of bad gas, in which you'll want to drain and refill with good, non e-85 fuel.
When the boat cranks but does not start it could mean that you are not getting any spark. If this is a case there are a bunch of things that you need to check. I know this because I had the same problem with my boat. I needed to replace the ignition sensor.
SeaDooSam, I checked and I'm getting the spark.
Chadderkdawg, I think my engine is an injector one, also how do I drain the fuel, where is the drain plug located?
Before you tackle emptying the fuel try running on an external tank. If it runs then worry about emptying the tank. Also look for fuel coming out of the injectors when you turn it over. Do you smell fuel?

When you turn the key on you should hear a humming noise for a couple of seconds. That is your fuel pump priming. I am not familiar with the Ford model but I think it is the same as the gm. Low pressure pump by the fuel filter. High pressure pump on top and right side towards the stern. Do you hear anything when you turn the key?
I got it to start: Yesterday there was no humming noise, today i unplugged the pump and cleaned the connections and it started.
thank you for your input.
