Sault ste Marie, Ontario.Lake Superior is 15 minutes away from me and Michigan is 5 minutes away.If your a sportsman I wouldn't live anywhere else.Ten minutes north of me is enough wilderness to swallow Texas whole.
I have a Championship ring from the old semi pro league way back that I wore just last night that is engraved Stoney Creek Patriots 21 Sault Steelers 7. They had some tough teams up there and hear they still do. I visited the steel plant many times and the locals took us to fish the St. Mary's river, best urban fishing in the world. People don't realize how massive and beautiful Northern Ontario is.
I to am from Ontario, I had a trailer plate that went from a utility trailer to a camper and on to my first boat trailer, that was not registered by me or the guy I bought it from. My current set up is all legal and registered to me as I got them from a dealer. I remember years back, just as you say we had boats on lakes you could only walk to. It took a hug effort to drag the boat out there and was normally pulled behind a snowmobile in the dead of winter. I am sure the boats are still there.
Yes roffey it took so much to get them there, usually over frozen lakes, they just leave them for someone to enjoy. We found a boat in the Long Lac area where a guy scratched into the side, " to anyone reading this please enjoy your new boat". I did buy a boat from a dealer that had to go back on a warranty thing. I bought a different boat and trailer from them a few weeks latter. They registered the boat but just switched plates over on the trailer and said don't worry about it.
We have a place on a small lake about an hour east of you, 82rude, with folks from both Canada and the States having cabins. I don't recall anyone having current stickers on their boats (mostly 14' aluminum V-hulls with outboards). I don't think I've ever been asked about boat boat registration or licensing when pulling our big boat through customs.
Every other time I cross into Canada from NY at Fort. Erie I am asked to show all my paper work, strange actually. No stickers required here in Canada for pleasure boats, maybe that's why you don't see them, lol.
