Can't get the outdrive back on

I check the alignment and the tool slides in and out really easy with 2 fingers but when I go to out the outdrive on it stops and won't go any further about an inch from where I should be. The engine is in forward like the manual says but it just won't go

I thought so but after you asked I put the drive back on as far as it would go a bad a look the little rod thing on the drive that I turn to make the prop spin freely or lock in place (what ever that thing is lol) is hitting the bottom of the gimble housing and won't let the drive move forward

Turning the prop will help align the splines on the shaft with the splines on the coupler on the engine allowing it to slid in easily as prom night...that is as long as it's in gear (the drive that is)

I once had the shift connector misplaced and that gave me a similar problem too

When I was doing mine I would put it in forward and remove the drive. I wouldn't touch the lever until the drive was back on. That makes it easier to not have to remember.

If it is that high it is not installed correctly, did you have the unit apart
