well, the saga continues with this thing. I rebuilt the carb again this morning. Everything was fine minus the lack of power on quick acceleration. I thought, hmm, maybe I should check the metering jets for clogs. Kinda forgot about that. Removed them, cleaned them, reinstalled them. Now the thing wont start at all. Not even a sputter. Checked the power valve, check ball, acceleration pump, and everything else i could think of and have no solutions. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated

Are you sure there is fuel at the carb? When you push the throttle from neutral to forward do you get a squirt of fuel down the carb?

Compression-fuel-spark is what it takes to fire the engine, You have fuel so check for spark and compression.

Also, if the engine is flooded. it won't fire. Open the throttle wide open and crank over the engine a couple of times for 5 seconds. BE READY to pull the throttle back to idle quickly if it fires as you don't want to race the engine.

You did something wrong -- that's why there is a problem. Did you accidentally knock a wire off its connection that would cause ignition failure. Look at the big picture, not just what you worked on. If fuel is being squirted into the carb, you likely have an ignition problem. (or the engine is simply flooded).

i dont see any wires out of place, everything looks pretty intact. If i would have knocked a wire off wouldnt i lose spark or something?

ok so update, things are going well. Apparently my new condenser decided to go bad. In any case, i believe now my issue is that my distributer may be a tooth off. when I get the engine even close to 8 degrees btdc it starts to pop through the carb. tonite i will back it up a tooth and see what happens.

Even if you are a tooth off you can get it timed by twisting it. Double check your firing order.
