Can someone please help me identify this outdrive? The pn on the plate is 850678. The tag on the intake says AQ225 D NO 5749.

I recently bought the boat. It had sat for a year or so. I took it out and it performed well for a few minutes, then something was slipping been the motor and and prop. So, out of the water, in forward, the prop spins freely counterclockwise, and I could turn it clockwise and slip the bushing in the prop. The boat came with a spare prop, so I installed it. On the water, same result, it will push the boat a couple knots, but over 1200rpm, it slips. Out of the water, the prop turns freely counterclockwise, and I can't turn it clockwise. I'm unable to post a picture of the outdrive. Thanks in advance!

HI, 850678 is a product number for the transom shield/assembly/housing and comes up as the info below.
There should (may) be a similar type ID tag around the stern drive area as well. http://www.volvopentastore.com/mall/template/store/volvopenta/help.html
What year is the boat?
Knowing the engine is a AQ225D and if the drive is to be original, looking at the parts guide it seems this engine model could have been connected to either a few 280 designed models or a 290 drive as they come up when you click on Transmissions in the following link,

It's in a 79 Campion Haida. I've looked all around and under the stern drive. No luck on a tag.

well, id like to upload a photo, but each time I crop the pic or change the quality to decrease the size of the file, the upload tool decreases the maximum number of bytes allowed...I'll keep trying
in the meantime, without knowing what model, any advice on what might cause the slipping/

Ok, I've found the pz number- 2896409b so research shows it's a 280. But the slipping...the oil looks good, and it doesn't smell like 90 weight, but like motor oil. How likely is it that the drive cone is slipping?

It's supposed to be 30w not gear oil.
Is it full?
Even a new prop can slip.
Mark a line on the hub and go for a ride and see if you can make it slip.
Then check the line and see if it's moved??

Ok. I'll change the oil to make sure, and try that. See if for sure the prop is slipping. Thank you.
