I have a 1989 Four Winns with a 2.3L and an OMC stern drive. Had to replace gimble bearing and bellows. The engine is pretty much in line up and down but seems to out of line from side to side. I have loosened the motor mounts but can not seem to get it to line up. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you, Jeff

Not only is this alignment critical, but it's not a naked eye kind of thing...no guessing, no hoping.

There's an alignment tool that's used to align the engine's coupler and the out drive. The coupler will be (or might already be) toast if this isn't done right.

The motor mounts are used to raise and lower the engine to attain this alignment. There re lots of videos online.

I had the same problem, I was using the alignment bar... after 3 hours of messing around with the front of the engine, I loosened the rear bolts and with a huge crow bar moved it 1/4 of an inch to port and my friend with the bar had it slide RIGHT in, no effort at all, we left the bar in and tightened it down... try that if messing with the front doesn't work.

If your rear mounts let it move like that, the rubber is broken and needs to be replaced.
