1990 wellcraft (possibly 1990 Faststrike 150) pulling air through fuel lines

Not sure what year the motor is exactly...but the starter doesn't like those on a 90, but it looks like a 92. But I have no idea...anyway

I keep having an issue with air being pulled into the fuel lines. The pickup tube has been replaced, all lines from the tank to the primer bulb are new. Repalaced the primer bulb, filter housing (was used) and the filter. Changing the pickup tube helped but my dad said he was unable to force it.all the way on. The old one was loose. This helped a lot. After running it a few miles it would occasionally cough again. If I squeezed the bulb I could feel some air in it. After a bit more running it was fine. Went about 8-10;miles and it coughed 3 more times. I thought all was well until I pulled out from the dock, got passed the No Wake buoys, mashed the throttle and she coughed and died. The bulb was dry it felt. After a LOT of pumping it finally started bit was never tight. Felt like the filter was empty bit I had no tools onboard. Got it back in and pumped a lot more until I felt air bubbles then pressure again. That's when we trailer ed it and called it a day.

It is worse at higher speeds from what I've noticed.

Soooo....the plan at this point is to go back through and teflon tape all the fittings and double clamping the lines. What else should I look at? This problem has been exhausting. I know it has one cylinder that is just out of range on compression but it runs great other than.this issue and being VERY cold natured.

(Sorry that's long...trying to describe it the best I can and have very limited knowledge about boats. This is my first...)

K, there will be a tag on the transom clamp that lists the model #. It will be something like E150GLENB, basically a letter then 150(in your case) and some more letters. This will tell us the year and model.

2nd, is this a built in tank or are you useing portables?

3rd, post results of compression test. You may want to fix the bad hole before running any more to avoid doing irreparable harm.

4th, welcome to the forum.

Sometimes heating the pick up tube with something like a heat gun can make it easier to slide over the barb. I wouldn't use an open flame near a gas tank though;)

1) no tag anywhere on the motor. Do have a number off of a freeze plug though

2) built in tank. Was tested with a portable and lead us to the pickup tube. Ran fine off of that tank, just burned it fast

3) I can't recall the numbers as it was done last year. Guy at the marina said it's just barely out of spec but isn't anything to worry about as long as it doesn't get worse. Said he's seen them further out and last for years.

4) thanks!

Number off the plug: G2644219

Ran it yesterday and pushed about 25-27 gallons of gas. Did trolling, some anchored fishing and hard running. Before pulling out I would check the primer bulb and feel some air in it but never had any coughing like before. After running it hard for about 10-12 miles the bulb was tight (this was at the end of the day heading back in.)

We knocked the check ball out of the barb fitting on top of the pickup tube, added thread sealant to the threads on all the barb fittings and threaded caps from the primer bulb to the tank.

image_250310.jpg Seems to have cleared up quite a bit now. Still getting occasional bubbles in the primer bulb though and it rarely feels tight but runs great overall! Going to install new cables this weekend and see how she does. Still unsure of the specs/year of the motor. All I know is it is "supposedly" original to the boat but I know the srarter doesn't match what I see for a 1990 Johnson 150, and haven't seen any 1990 Faststrikes....

And she seems to sit LOW with that motor.
