Hi everybody. First time posting here.

I inherited a boat from my father. A 1986 Stingray SVB198SS, with an MCM170 Mercruiser. The prop on it is all torn up. I know the pitch is 21.

The numbers on the side of the prop are 48-78122 A40 21P. I'm pretty sure it's a 13" diameter, but could be wrong. The spare prop I have is a 13X19P. I'd like to get a 21 for it but need a little guidance..

Any suggestions for a new prop for this? Not looking to break the bank, but I want to be sure I'm buying the correct prop. I've come across a few, but they are raed at 150HP or less and this engine is 170HP.

Thanks everyone!

You have the numbers from the old prop. If it ran fine before the prop was "tore up" get another of the same.

chat with the iboats people here....on the store side... with the prop pulled off the shaft, count the splines.. it's probably got 15.. it's probably an A1- Gen 1 drive.. Go with Solas aluminum prop,, prob $125 ish..

Totally understand. Just not sure where to find that prop.

If you simply Google the number, you will find hundreds of places to buy the prop, one of them being boats. You may even find a nice used one for $40

Thanks everyone. Again, I'm new to prop purchases, so I'm just trying to get some advice before I buy. Just making sure I get the correct item. So many props, and finding a 13" diameter has been difficult.

Diameter is fairly meaningless other than whether it clears your drive. There are so many design criteria that go into building a useable propeller, diameter is one of the least important when it comes to performance. Since you know your boat ran nicely on the last prop, as others stated, just use its part number to get an identical replacement.

See if there is a local prop shop that will let you try out different props. That's what I did and it worked out great.
