I?m hoping Someone can help me clarify a few things regarding the wiring of my 307 chevy / OMC setup. I tried to turn off my lancer one day and it kept running. After getting it home and inspecting the harness this is what I found.
Quite a mess. I knew here had been some modification but not to the extent that I now see.

Here are my major questions.
  1. How do I reconfigure my wiring to accommodate a one wire alternator? Where should purple #2 go? (See marked up wiring diagram)
  2. My setup currently doesn?t have a ?starter solenoid? that is off of the starter. (See marked up wiring diagram) Can I just take those 3 wires straight to the main solenoid? Or should I get one? If so where is it mounted?
  3. I currently don?t have a ballast resister. Should I get one? Where should it be mounted? If isn?t not required should purple #1 go straight to the coil?
  4. I do not have a temp gauge on my instrument panel. Just a warning light. I?m planning on adding one in the future but what should I do wires for the time being?
  5. The wire gauges in my harness don?t match the gauges show on the diagram. The ones shown as 10ga are 8ga. The ones identified as 16ga are 18ga. I have already purchased the wire I needed. Will it be an issue if I transition sizes?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
David

Sure looks like you have a medal of a hess

I
[*]How do I reconfigure my wiring to accommodate a one wire alternator? Where should purple #2 go? (See marked up wiring diagram)

To go from three to one wire, just disconnect the purple and sense leads and connect output power lead direct to the starter post or positive battery terminal.

[*]My setup currently doesn’t have a “starter solenoid” that is off of the starter. (See marked up wiring diagram) Can I just take those 3 wires straight to the main solenoid? Or should I get one? If so where is it mounted?

This does not make sense to my small mind. If you do not have the solenoid then you don't need to add it, unless you want to. Adding one helps lower the current requirement thru the key ignition switch.

[*]I currently don’t have a ballast resister. Should I get one? Where should it be mounted? If isn’t not required should purple #1 go straight to the coil?

If you have a points distributor then you need a resistor. Not having an actual resistor doesn't mean you do not have one. It could be part of the wire that feeds the distributor.

[*]I do not have a temp gauge on my instrument panel. Just a warning light. I’m planning on adding one in the future but what should I do wires for the time being?

The temp light is feed by a 12V line to the light, then from the light to a temp switch. Change the light to a gauge, connect 12V line to the gauge, add a ground wire to the gauge, then change the temp switch to a temp sender, connect temp switch wire to temp sender, and connect other end of light to sender connection on the gauge.

[*]The wire gauges in my harness don’t match the gauges show on the diagram. The ones shown as 10ga are 8ga. The ones identified as 16ga are 18ga. I have already purchased the wire I needed. Will it be an issue if I transition sizes?
[/LIST]

The 10 to 8 is of no issue, the 16 to 18 could be depending on what you have. My guess is you have found the wrong wiring diagram for your motor
