I might be being stupid but I cant seem to find a set of cam bearings for sale.. I will also need a fitting tool, though i could improvise, will a Chevy one do?

Similar question on the rings, it's much cheaper to buy a set for 8 Chev 350 pistons than 4 merc 3.0 ones, does anyone know if they are the same, google throws up conflicting answers.

I building up a 'bitsa' Merc 3.0 140 from parts I've had lying around so missing a few bits like this and trying to save money where I can!

thanks in advance

Most GM parts are fine. The tool used to remove and install cam bearings is the same for all engines.
The pistons are determined by the bore size and rod size..Also if flat top or dished ones
the MCM 140 has a 4.00 bore ,that is the same as the 350 motor

Similar question on the rings,

Ayuh,..... As with the rest of the parts yer buyin',....

Ya gotta measure, Measure, 'n Measure again, 'n buy the dimensionally correct Chevy parts ya need,...

Rings vary buy bore size, 'n thickness,....Measure the ring grooves in the pistons,....

Chevy 350 pistons are like underwear...... While they are common, they very. As Bondo pointed out.... Measure....measure....measure

And yes, a set of 8 will be less than a dedicated 3.0 piston set

Machine shop, Rock Auto? Cam bearings for a 68' Chevy II with a 153CI 4 cylinder should fit.

In the good 'ole days, when a 'new' engine was a previous design with a couple of pots dropped off (or added ;)), before CAD/CAM and every part of a car can be made slightly different (meaning no more multi use parts). I remember when all cars use the same round 7" 'sealed beam' headlights.

Last car produced here with 7" round headlights was in the late 70's.... Most of those have rusted away by now.... We had a saying... "Holdens. On a quiet night you can hear them rusting".....

Chris.....

My project vehicles in the past 10 years have been a pair of 1940 chevrolet deluxes, a 1948 chevrolet 3100, a 1953 chevrolet 3600 and the last project is a 1973 Opel GT. Trying to sell that as I have a line on a near finished Cobra replica....as i said, cars with soul.

My next truck may have quad 5" sealed beams :)
