Torque specs for a 1990 90hp Evinrude V4 outboard

Specifically I need the specs for the water pump housing bolts and the bolts that connect the gear housing to the lower leg.

Water pump housing screws= 60-84 in. lbs. Gearcase screws = 3/8 in. 22-24 ft. lbs.7/16 in 30-32s ft. lbs .

Also what do you mean when you say...3/8 and 7/16? All the bolts that mount the gear case to the lower leg are bigger than both of those sizes.

Those sizes are the size of the bolt or cap screw if you will. The size wrench you use diesnt mean anything.

For example: a 1/4-20 bolt many times reguires a 1/2" wrench but you can also get them that use a 7/16" wrench for special applications.

Edit, i think i typed those wrench sizes backwords but you get what I mean.

I found this from a Evinrude/Johnson 1973-1991 60-235HP service manual. This was the only torque spec page I found.

So does the 'standard bolts and nuts' refer to the mounting bolts that attach the lower gear housing to the lower leg? And 3/8" 7/16" refers to the diameter of the bolts not the size of the wrench correct? These are stupid questions I know but I want to be sure.

Also jboute where did you get that image...is that manual available online for download? I can't afford to pay $30 for a manual right now.

​I would presume the "Standard bolts and nuts" would apply to anything not listed above it. Usually does in automotive.
Not sure about the sizing though.. My initial thought would have been wrench size, but maybe I'll learn something here too!

I'm VERY new to boating and outboards, so I'd wait for one of the more experienced members here to let you know for sure, but I'd say it's a safe bet.

Talent, yes, the size of a bolt is determined by the diameter, then pitch, then length. For example 1/4"-20 ? 2 1/2" would be a cap screw with a diameter of 1/4" , 20 threads per inch and a length of 2 and 1/2 inches from the tip to the head.

The other way to do it is to snug the water pump housing bolts good and for the lower unit go "good-n-tight".

From a factory GM repair manual: "fully driven, not stripped". From a more tongue-in-cheek source (VW Bug maintenance manual with the motto "is your bug upset" and a picture of an upside-down beetle): tighten until it strips, then back a quarter turn.

Oh, and that picture tolent found is a snap from boatinfo.no service guide and it has more than one error in the list so use at your discretion.
