I have a chance to buy a 2001 Dodge 3500 4x2 dualy 12ft steel flat bed with 170k. It is a company truck and I been driving it for about a year now the company is upgrading to a 4x4. and offered the truck to me for $3000. Is it worth doing? Aside from being thirsty for fuel are the v10s good engines. This truck has been fleet maintained with reciepts for most the work done to it. I should also add that miles are hiway miles . truck is a 5speed manual. Truck was used to haul a trailer around about 7500lbs loaded and to run errands.

thanks EDIT P.S. I will probably be putting about 500 miles a month on this truck so fuel mileage is not realy a big concern to me

I don't know a lot about them , but a friend of mine bought one several years ago and other than being a gas guzzler, he loves it and hasn't had any trouble to speak of

A running 3500 truck for $3k? I don't think you need to ask any further questions. Jump on it.

I'm kinda' with EZ: you've been runnin' it and know it. For $3k? If ya' like it, it's probably worth it.

FWIW - I have an '04 2500 with a 5.7. Tough as nails rig. I love it. I've had several Dodges (2 cars, 1 minivan, 1 3/4 ton van and now this truck) and they've all been 250 - 300k mile cars/trucks.

My buddy has the same vehicle since new. He uses it to tow his antique vehicles in a closed trailer to shows all over the nation. Swears by it. If you have a use for it, I would invest in it. Worst case, you should get your money back easy if you sell it. Good Luck!
