It's going to be metric. My first thought is M8

Thanks Scott just thought the engine was too early for metric, the trouble here in the UK is we have lost all our small shops that did all that sort of item it is all multi stores that only sell in packets so don't want to buy bolts off the wrong thread

The big retailers(we have Home Depot) usually has a test board with different size bolts and threads so you can test the size you have.
Take one with you??

I know Volvo on some applications used ASE and Metric????

Thanks Jerry I will give that a try but definitely not Metric as I found some metric bolts this morning among all my bits and pieces had some M8 and the nut does not fit so as you say probably ASE

The motor is from Sweden, (B20 motor out of a Volvo 200 series, so that was born metric), the outdrive may be imperial

I have the bolts with me now and I have some metric nuts and they definitely don't fit on to the bolts and due to the fact they screw into the block it is most important I get the right thread the last thing I want to do is damage the thread in the block

The B20 threads are all SAE.

Just pulled a nut off the stud on one of my AQ130s - 5/16".

Just curious, why not pull a stud and find out for yourself?

I have pulled one of the studs out and taken the nut off but didn't have a thread gauge to see what thread it was but that looks more like my thread 5/16" the trouble in the UK now is most of the bolts and nuts have gone to metric.

I wasn't being lazy I will do as Jerry says and try and find one of the big stores with a thread gauge I just thought they would all be the same thread and somebody on the forum had changed there's and knew what they would be.

Thanks for all your help again.
