Hi, I was just wanting to ask, can you make the two exhaust cover gaskets from some sort of liquid gasket, like Perma tex? Or do I need to try and find the actual gaskets for sale somewhere and use those?
Definitely do not use a liquid gasket material. It normally cost about four or $5 for exhaust cover gaskets. You can get them online very cheap sometimes your local Marine Parts guys will have them in stock still. A lot of people don't know that auto parts stores like in Napa also sell marine parts and can get them in stock within a day or two. It is not uncommon for them to still be around or be able to get them even for older Motors. The liquid Permatex can get into the ports and jackets that is the last thing you want you will be pulling it back apart again if this happens. If you want to cut them out that is possible but I would imagine it being a pain in the butt and not worth it for the money you would spend on the two gaskets. Good luck man. Is this the 10hp motor you posted about earlier? Exhaust cover gaskets are part number 301854. Try an Evinrude dealer. He can order them for you if you give him the part number.

It is that motor, there's an evinrude dealer near by but he acts like he can't get many parts for it anymore, but I'll shop around. One of the screws holding it on broke off so I won't be getting it back together as soon as I'd like anyways.
That's why I said take him the part number. Most places won't give you the time of day without it. They probably don't have the parts book either. He knows where to get the part if he really wants to.
