Welcome aboard.

What you are describing sounds like the drive is in Forward.

In Forward the prop locks one way and clicks in the opposite direction. The clicking is from the dog clutches used to prevent the prop from trying to drive the engine backwards as a boat slows down or the motor is shut off in gear. Neutral has a free spinning prop and Reverse locks in both directions.

Reverse locks in both directions.

Nope,.... Reverse ratchets the opposite of forward, but still ratchets,....

Welcome Aboard Safe,... It sounds normal, except it should never slip goin' against the dog-clutch,....
Might be a mis-adjusted lower shift cable, or not,...

To much old outboard work and too long since Mercruiser work.

Thanks for straightening me out, Bondo.

So you're spinning the prop with your hand while on the trailer and there's no issue when your on the water?

As long as it spins properly as said above and isn't seized I would say try it out. Put some rabbit ears on it and start it up. That is what I do to make sure there are no issues I need to fix before it is boating season.
