Some i am not sure what one can be replaced with out removing the engine.
Volvo Penta used two intermediate shaft designs. One style was much like a car with a standard transmission. On that style you can remove the snap rings and pull the shaft and bearing out from the aft
With the other style you need to pull the engine as there are two bearings supporting the shaft and can not be removed from the aft.
From this link it looks like you have the style that will come out from the aft. and has a single bearing.

Yes. The snap rings in the flywheel housing hold the shaft and bearing assembly in place. During reassembly, do yourself a favor and make sure you fill the grease cavity with fresh grease until you see it come through the bearing cage. That way you know there is grease to the bearings.

Good job..
1. remove flywheel cover plate under the block, between bell housing and oil pan.
2. pay attention to metric versus SAE nuts and bolts ( a previous owner buggered mine up).
3. unbolt bell housing. 4-5 bolts not counting the two in starter
4. two alignment pins
5. gently beat it off with hammer

so it actually went very smoothly, I was able to rebuild the housing and reinstall in the boat over the weekend, I did notice my alternator is frozen solid, ordered another from amazon, be here this week, thank you for all your wisdom and willingness to help, much appreciated. The pics are from the weekend, the old bearing, cleaned bell housing, fly wheel, is it supposed to be rusty? and the new assembly.

'If it moves, salute it. If it doesn't move, pick it up. If you can't pick it up, paint it.'

The bellows most likely had a rip or hole in it at one point and water got in there.
Or, the bilge pump was inadequate and water filled inside bottom of bellhousing, the engine can stay running as long as water doesn't get deep enough to hit the front belts. When water hits the belts, it sprays onto distributor and carb stalling the engine.
