Transducer Location

I own a 22 foot deck boat that I fish out of quite often. Therefore, I purchased a new sonar, a Garmin 73sv echo. The hull is made quite different than a bass boat so I am looking for advice on where to locate the transducer. I enclosed a pic. The far right sort of angles inward then straightens back out. Thanks.

Nice unit......I would mount to the extreme right of the water intake strainer, not under the boarding ladder. Use 3M4200 in the mounting holes and on the screws.

I would mount it to the left of the transom eye. That notched transom will probably cause a lot of turbulence, so you want it to be as far forward as possible. Also, you don't want it too close to the motor.

I thought about that..then I saw where the trailer bunks were and the ladder....that's why I suggested the placement I did.

I appreciate the responses. What are you referring to as the "transom eye"? Never heard that term before.

Im assuming you're referring to the eye bolt used for strapping the boat down. I would still need to make sure the transducer is level with the bottom of the hull right? Or are you suggesting mounting it high in line with the eye?

Yes, a transom eye is like a bow eye, but you get 2 of them and they are on the other end.

Transducers are ideally mounted half way between the keel and the chine to minimize turbulence. Yes they need to be below the bottom of the boat, maybe only slightly, with the trailing end a degree or so downward. The specific parameters are listed in the installation manual, and different types require different positions. I have had units that were mounted flush with the bottom (shallow V or flat bottom) and others an inch below. They need to align with the bottom of the river (or waterline, not the bottom of the boat.

Put it where it won't interfere with a trailer bunk. With that much rake on the transom you'd have to have awful long toes to hit it when climbing on the ladder.
