I'm looking for a solution for pulling out engine data from my 1995 Mercruiser 5.7 to my Lowrance HDS 12 Gen 3 via NMEA 2000.

:welcome:

Post a serial number of your engine, as that will help with responses. . . as far as NMEA data . . . not sure if an engine of that vintage would even produce that data to begin with.

Thanks for the Welcome and the response.
The engine SERIAL NUMBERS are OF349970 & OF349944

Howdy

This is not going to happen with a TB-V, or at least not very easy. You have two things against you, The TBV does not export digital data, and there is no Merc gateway that will translate the data to NEMA. Only way to translate data to NEMA is to buy analog to digital (A/D) converters and install for every gauge

welcome aboard. AD has you covered.

they do make J1939 gauge modules that you can wire all your sensors to, then replace all the gauges with CAN gauges (Smart craft, or other names apply) to add the gauge portion to a J1939 data stream

however that would be a lot of unnecessary expense to wire your Lawrence unit just for NMEA 2000 connectivity

Mercury does not make ANY engines that are compatible with NMEA-2000. The closest they get is their own, proprietary, closed standard called Smartcraft.

If your Mercury engine supports Smartcraft you can get a Mercury GATEWAY which will convert some of the data to NMEA-2000. This will cost about $700 and you may need to have a Smartcraft gauge to configure the GATEWAY. Find a Mercury dealer that knows about this sort of gear--most do not--and get their advice.

If your Mercury engine does not support Smartcraft, you will have to invent your own adaptation by buying a generic engine analogue data to NMEA-2000 data CONVERTOR, figure out how to wire it up to your engine, figure out how to calibrate all the sensors, and then see some of the data on your NMEA-2000 network. One device known to work reasonably well is the NOLAND RS11 convertor. See

I've purchased a Alba-Combi Analogue to NMEA 2000 converter. I'll post my progress and results as I go. Thanks again for the input - it helped.
