Cannot go faster than 10 MPH, but runs fine in neutral.

Once the engine is warmed up you need to tie up to a dock, put it in forward, then adjust your idle speed. You should use a shop tach but presuming the tach on the boat is "accurate" that will get you really close.
And while your on the water you'll probably want to tweak your idle jets again, , , and then possibly the idle speed again.

As for idle jet(s) once the engine is warmed up and running in neutral, turn each jet out until the engine starts to run rough (too rich), then turn each jet in until the engine starts to run rough again (running lean), then back jets out 1/2 way between rich and lean and your good. Adjust one jet at a time.
Perfect, it only has 1 screw, but I will do what you're suggesting.

The impeller (sea water impeller) is in the lower part of the drive just above the anti ventilation plate. You need to separate the lower from the upper. Once you gain access to the impeller remove it and inspect it. If the vanes have taken a set or look worn it's time to replace it.
Actually, replace it anyway it's cheap insurance. NOTE - do not use anything other than a Mercruiser impeller. Aftermarket ones just aren't the same, , , in my opinion.

Got it apart, impeller and housing are in perfect condition, however, I found 1 more flap and the metal inside upon removal.

Hopefully, it was just that your exhaust passage was flapped. :)

Thinking so, really excited to get back to the lake. I am thinking it will be far faster than when I bought it last year.

Big thanks to this forum. Good job guys!

Ok, backup and running, but hopefully, this is my last question. I may have noticed before, but you know how it goes... over worry. Where the shifter connects and speedo tube connect, there's a constant stream of warm water that comes from that area out... is that normal? Just never seen before, I hope?

Maybe someone else can advise without seeing exactly the spot, but I'm having trouble with "warm" water and that area. Can you post a pic?

Thinking it may be normal now.

That doesn't look normal. This first pic makes me think its coming from the speed-o tube, but the second looks more like a crack in something. If the spray is going up toward the hose, then its bouncing off the trim lines or something, if its going away from the speed-o tube, then I think something is wrong, like your exhaust is not sealed

Here's a dry picture, it's coming from this little hole in the tube/shifter linkage...I am getting very little water if any coming through the propeller area too.

Wondering if there is still some flapper stuck in the exhaust bellow. Did you already check there?

I have not checked.. thinking back, I have found two halves so far... So, either something is left inside, or some has discharged.

Yes, I took off the whole drive and with a flash light checked everything at night. Took of lower yesterday and found the other piece.

The manual shows this is where a bushing is located
bushing.jpg

Only issue is when the part is looked up it does show the item, only a kit 23-806036A1 (item 6)
http://www.mercruiserparts.com/bam/s...30862/2686/100

When the part is looked up, there is only one bushing shown, but there would need one for the top and bottom.

That said, if the shaft is not loose, it probably won't hurt anything in the short term. Over the long haul (lots of hours) it may make the hole larger

Hey Bt Doctur what you think?

watched as many youtube videos as possible.. really hard to say, some shoot out good water from prop side of exhaust, some don't. Seems most are discharging water at same spot by shaft/speedo area..... it does have a little up and down play, but nothing that seems out of line. I am going to look into replacing those sleeves you posted as well and any seals related.

Maybe wait on the seals until winterization. One season isn't going to hurt anything and maybe someone else can come along and advise with my knowledge in this area

Went to the lake and man, highly impressed. Felt like a different boat, so I've had issues since the day I bought it and just resolved them. Planed out fast, got to the low 40s pretty fast, but didn't try for top speed. Never even had a chance to trim it up. Too choppy and and 8 people (4 kids/4adults) on the boat. Also, only burned 1/4 tank of gas compared to previous 3/4 since I was constantly at WOT to achieve 35 MPH.

Big thanks to the crew that helped, hopefully this thread will help others in the future that are new to boating.
