Hi there. So heres my situation. I have an Alpha drive, and last season I upgraded my protection by adding the square shaped anode that mounts underneath onto the trim ram manifold. This year, included in my anode kit was a diamond shaped rubber gasket. The kit I bought last year didnt have one. I was always under the impression that for anodes to provide any protection, there needs to be metal to metal contact. Should I discard this gasket, or should I be using it?? I dont have a mercathode. Thank you for reading!

Your correct the anodes need to have metal contact. Can you post a pic of the gasket?

The comment about adding the anode under the trim ram (transom assembly) is where the mercathode goes. Is your boat plugged into shore power when in the water?

Sometimes yes. Are you saying that if I don't have a mercathode I don't need that anode?

The anodes will help even without the mercathode, just not as well if it also had cathode protection
