I have a OMC King Cobra outdrive with a 454 king cobra engine on a 1991 Chris Craft 252 crowne. I am going to re power with a merc crusier either a 350 or 357mpi. and a Bravo 3 out drive. I am looking for a transom adapter for the new out drive .Does one exist? If so Where can I get one.
One mechanic is saying we need to have the hole in the transom re fiber-glassed then cut a new hole. Another said find a Transom adapter from the old OMC to the new Bravo out drive. Can someone steer me in the right direction Money is not a big problem I willing to pay for the adapter as it will save me in the Fiberglass work and labor.

HT32BSX115 will be able to help you since he did this swap or one just like it.

You have to replace the transom mount. No adapter will work.

No adapter needed, however 2 holes need to be drilled.

Howdy,

Welcome aboard.

I removed a 460 + KC (dog) drive and replaced with a '97 7.4L + Bravo III in my 87 21ft Four Winns. I think it would be advantageous to stay with the 454 for the improved performance. (a 454 will use nearly the same amount of fuel as a 350 to push the boat at approx the same planing speed)

You might consider keeping/rebuilding your (long-block) 454 if you can find a Merc manifold, carb, ignition and the other Bravo "Stuff" for a 7.4.

The older Dog-Clutch King Cobra transom cut-out only needed to have 2 additional bolt-holes drilled for the Bravo transom mount. (at the top IIRC) I am pretty sure that your Interim OMC Cone-clutch drive transom mount will have the same bolt-pattern and layout as the earlier OMC transom-mount.

You also may have to slightly relocate your side engine mounts.

The difference in performance between the single prop drive and Bravo III will be nothing short of spectacular.

You could also try to find a complete Volvo Duo-Prop drive and engine. (tried but never did find any decent Volvo engine/drives but found several 350/454/496 engines drives Bravo I/II/III

Cheers,

Rick

Did you ever to this? Did you need to re-glass the transom or did the cutout work?
