I have a 25hp 1985 Evinrude and I have been fighting a issue and don't know what to do next other then get a new rebuild kit for my carb.

Issue: When I start my boat up after 5 pulls and pumping it up. It starts right up, I fish for a bit then when I go to start it back up it wants to die in idle and I have to throw it into gear to keep it going after the 1 millionth pull... Any ideas?

New: spark plugs changed, throttle linkage is fine, and tweaked.

Is this a tiller or a remote model? Describe your cold start procedure.

Nope just a hand twist. When I make it to the lake, I pump the primer bulb and then pull choke then about 5 pulls starts right up...

But after I run it and fish I try and start it up, and it wants to die, and I have to keep pulling it and until I can get a good kick I have to give it gas and throw it in gear so it will stay running and give it heck to go

Maybe fuel diaphram has a hole or crack in it and it's flooding. Maybe a new fuel pump?

Your motor does not have a choke it's a primer. Pump it a couple of times and leave it 1/2 out. Turn the throttle as far as it will go towards the fast mark and then pull it over. Once it starts push the primer all the way in. See if that helps

I had no idea that is what it was. Cool. I thought it was a choke lol. So I pump that and my primer bulb as well?

Correct.----You operate the manual pump ( bulb ) to fill the carburetor.-----Look closely at the hoses on that primer unit on the motor.-----It pulls fuel from the carburetor bowl and sprays it into the motor itself.
