Gas Leak

I have a 1998 Leader 190cc. I opened my back battery compartment to hook up charger for trolling motor battery and noticed I had gas in the bottom of the boat near the top of the batteries. It was scary. I removed the plug and drained about 4 to 5 gallons of gas out of the bottom of the boat. It has a built in aluminum tank probably 40 or 50 gal. there is no way to get the tank out so I cut the floor just in side the size of the center console. The tank is still way to big to get out of this hole. does anyone know what could have caused this. I looked at the fill hose and everything looks good. Evan where it hooks to the top of the tank.

can you see the entire length of the fill hose? They almost always crack on stress areas first, which generally means where it is clamped onto the fill thru-hull, or right by the clamp on the tank side.

Is there any chance you (or someone) filled some gas into a rodholder instead of the gas fill? I have, uhm, heard of people doing this before...

I probably should remove the fill hose and inspect it pretty good. That could be the only logical explanation. I have owned the boat since new, someone ask me was I sure I didn't put gas in a rod holder. That's not the case, where I can see it being possible for some people. lol Thanks a Bunch!!!

Check by the fuel sender, a bad gasket there would be where I would look, but doubtful it would leak 5 gallons.

If it continues to leak more gas then its the tank. If tank is in foam and water has gotten in the foam, the water will eat thru the tank from the outside

That's what I was going to say. I had to replace my tank because of the saltwater getting trapped between the foam and tank causing several small pin holes. If you can't find the leak you'll have to have the tank pressure tested.
