Does Life-calk have to be discarded after the tube is opened and used once? 3M 4200 does.
Have you ever tried putting your tube of 4200 in the freezer after you open it? I do that with my 5200 and it works well.

I have never tried this, but some people talk about using tin foil (aluminum foil actually) over the end of the tube and then use a wire nut to hold it on. It is supposed to keep air from getting into the tube. Like I said, I haven't tried that yet, but I plan to try it when the opportunities comes up. :noidea:

If you seal the end with Saran Wrap and keep it refrigerated it'll last a few months

I wrap the end tightly with electrical tape (folding the tape over the end to seal it better). What is in the tip usually starts to set after a couple of weeks, but after a couple of months I can work the cured portion out of the tip.

I have 1/4 tube of BoatLife caulk that's 7 years old (hold a sec, checking...) and it's still pliable. I wouldn't use it for anything critical, but the tube hasn't hardened. I can usually get a couple years out of a tube of 3M 5200. I'm in the desert though, super low humidity... If I need to kick 3m 5200, I have to drape a wet towel over it, or it takes weeks for it to cure.

I take a shopping bag, double it over 3-4 times, fold it over the tip, then wrap around the tip/bag with a rubber band or electrical tape, works well.
