Hello All,
I am waiting for my carb kit to arrive from here but have a question, Am I really limited to 1500 using the water muffs in my driveway?
It seems I cannot do much testing like this.

Your thoughts

Thanks,

Rick

Yes, with one exception. if you have a 1" hose, 25' or less, hooked up to over 60 psi of water pressure with a 1-1/4 feed line to your property and a 3/4" line feeding your high-flow ball-valve spigot. then you would have enough water flow to feed the motor faster than 1500 RPM

any higher RPM and the water pump tries to pump more water than what is available and you can do any one of the following: overheat the motor, burn up the impeller, collapse the hose resulting in a burned up impeller and over heat.

and since you are testing the carb, you cant simply test the motor unloaded, you need to be in the water or a test tank, under load, to properly test a fuel system.

Thanks Scott,
So I better keep it under 1500, I do not have the water or facilities you referred to
Thanks

Side tracking your post slightly but:

Agree, other exception is IF you have 3/4 line feeding the house at 120 psi. In Louisville we had 90 psi pressure. Currently in the country have 3/4 line at 120 psi and have a 1 1/4 inch regulator to 95 psi to keep from blowing the hot water tank valve open

and Bob, you could run your motor on muffs to about 3500 RPM

I also bet, the first time the hot water heater valve opened you were in a panic

I am not sure what running an engine at a high(er) speed while on the muffs really demonstrates (as far as testing). :noidea: It is a proven fact that even the worst of engines run great in the driveway.

I have run my engines up in the 2K range or even have rev'ed them up to 3K for a split second . . . but nothing of real purpose behind doing that except to hear it rev up. :)

No load testing is essentially not testing at all.

No load on the prop and its very easy to over-speed the engine too. That can spread parts of engine all over the driveway without you removing the bolts.

Nice. A 'self dis-assembling' engine... Patent that!
