Hi guys looking for help to identify what this part is ?
Back story- I was adjusting my trim tabs the other day and heard a weird noise look a :squish: look in the back while my wife was moving the tab around and saw hydroic fluid leaking out of this part. It only leaks when I use the trim tabs not to tilt the outdrive, and it only does it when I move the port side which doesn't move now?
The starboard side is fine.
Iam guessing here but I guess I'm losing pressure in the lines to move the tabs which is why it is not moving ?
Any way any advice is appreciated.
It's a 1990 4.3 merc alpha one gen one
I've attached some pics

What I see in those photos is a power steering actuator. There's no trim tabs there.

Okay well I'm stumped now.
Does the power steering work with the trim tabs or tilt?
Like I said only time it leaks is when I move the trim tab knob

Power steering doesn't work with either one.

Lets see a picture of the stern.

Sounds like a separate issue. These pics are Defo power steering.
Trim tabs will be a stand alone system and usually consist of a separate resoivoir and pump system.

Do you guys think I would have to replace the whole actuator ? Or is it just removing that bolt and replacing the bushing.
Side note when I grab it, it seems to move up and down.

On that type of cylinder the main area for leaks are the tube itself and the 2 small steel oil lines. Both are prone to rust
