Oil drain hose

I was looking for an engine oil leak on my boat (no success) and I came across that hose that goes all the way down to the middle of the oil pan and I've noticed that that fitting that goes into the pan spins both ways, what are the chances that this fitting is leaking? Also what kind of fitting that is, is it screwed in? I'm trying to look this up but cant find anything.

I believe its a quick connect type , it will rotate but not normally leak.

That sounds like a aftermarket oil drain hose. I put one on mine & the fitting that came with it would not tighten up to the oil pan & I had to make up a fitting that worked.

If its loose it's definitely leaking oil. It probably has the threads stripped out in the oil pan also. They have oversized drain plugs that you could put in the pan after removing the hose but I've never used one of those so can't speak on them.
Having that hose on sure makes it easier to change the oil but if it's leaking & I didn't want to pull the engine to replace the pan I might try one of those oversized plugs???

I guess I didn't realize they had the quick connect fittings on those. Hopefully you're OK then.

True, that's just a regular swivel hose fitting, it's supposed to spin. My last boat (2008 Searay), came from the factory with that hose option. After 8 years, never had a problem with it leaking.

Mine came with it from factory option too but boat is now 10 years old so I was thinking maybe it could be it.

I've noticed in your signature you have fairly new boat with new 4.5 MPI, how you like this engine?

Oh OK. I have not had the privilege of owning a newer boat yet. I'd probably be better off making a payment on a newer boat rather than always working on these older ones. Now if I can just make the "captain" see it that way. Lol.
