Hello.
I'm posting on behalf of a friend that had a stuck needle in this tachometer. It was stuck for a few years now, but the hourmeter was working, so we knew it was the needle problem. Anyway, it became loose when i opened it up to try to loosen it, without directly taking action on it, meaning that i was messing around with it, after opening it up, when i realised that it had moved on its own. The needle was pretty stuck! Ok, so now it's loose but not "free", the force that it takes to turn it is very very weak and it stays where you leave it, it won't come back to zero or go in that direction at least. My question is if this is normal, or there is some spring that might have broken, i don't hear anything loose inside the tachometer.

Best regards.
Pedro

Hi!
Thank you for responding. Do you think that he will need a new one? Why? Can you explain it better?
Thank you.

Lol...

The meter movement is probably just sticking (it should float/bounce around when nudged), could be worn out though but, my dollar is it's dirtied up and dragging. I'm cheap, so I'd open it up and try to fix it, I'd try at the least,............Click here, see section on "pivots might be sticking" at least with this background, you'll know most likely why if you just pitch it as was suggested.

Ok, i've seen the pics, i have the tachometer opened up, but haven't pulled the whole mechanism out, because, the lower side of it doesn't slide out like the upper side, the lower side come only to a certain point, maybe it slides out 5 mm, no more, before stoping. I don't understand where it could be getting stuck since ther are no screws, beside the ground, signal, battery and the screw on the right that serves only to lock the tachometer to the plastic holder... So i can't know for sure what it might be dragging the needle or it's axle... Have you ever opened one of these up?
Thank you again for your help!

We are cheap too! :)
Merry Christmas!

Thank you kindly and Merry Christmas to you and yours as well.......

Have you ever opened one of these up?

Maybe, open a few in my day but, not sure about your specific type, they're about the same though. The threads and any feed through wires can sometimes hang up coming through their respective holes.

Also the face plate edges will hang on the inside edges of the cup sometimes too....

Manu's are siding those guts down inside the cup without much room to spare on the sides, if their is junk collecting on the inside of the cup, it can hang up the works from siding out..........If all the nuts are off and the guts (including the threaded studs) are siding in and out but stopping from coming all the way out, just keep working it out lil bits at a time, rotating slightly back and forth a bit while pulling it out with a lil more force, it should slide out. Lil bit of WD40 sprayed in at 6:00 o:clock (not time of day but, the cup position behind the face plate ;) )might be in order too.

Google can help as well
