+1 to what Bondo said about a block swap (maybe best to get a built-up long block). If it is any consolation, you may have the distinction of being our first cracked block of the 2018 season. :noidea:

I have about 10 locals freaking out currently...

So I wassss planning to sell this boat. The boat was going up for sale. Now im in a dilemma on my options. If I sell the boat still, im not trying to do anything shady and go about this the best possible way.

Options/choices:
-reman motor (still unsure who to use/contact) for a good option
-4.3 truck block and do the necessary items to swap over
-350 swap. I can get a 350 setup with everything ready to go in the water. my outdrive is (1.62??) I believe, and was told with a prop change I would be ok (just hearsay ..haven't confirmed this yet)

  • 350 swap would be a fair amount of fiberglass work to move the mounts. not worth it if your selling
  • reman or new long block would get you a waranty
  • used motor swap would get the boat moving the least amount of money, however if your selling may affect sale, i would look into a reman or new long block from GM

I would possibly keep the boat if I did the 350 swap. Also the mechanic pulled my motor out is the one who has the 350 option for me.

What kind of boat is it?

is the 350 going to be MPI or carb?

depending on how the engine mounts are designed you may not require any fiberglass work.

Boat is a 2014 Tahoe q5i 19.5 bow rider
unsure on mounts. And unsure on motor details because I wasn’t that interested. But I’ve kinda been thinking out loud here.

heads are 1996 or newer vortec, block is 2003 or newer, however only change to the block is all metric fasteners

Go to Mercury Re-Manufacturing. Pick up one of their drop in rebuilds, get a few extra ponies to boot and have fun.

I purchased a boat 2 years ago. A couple years prior the previous owner had the boat on his lift (in northern Minnesota) in the fall, cold front came through and cracked the block.
Original engine was 350/250 h.p. He picks up a Mercury Re-Manufacturing 357 Alpha 4-V. Merc takes a 350 block, bores it .040" over (357 c.i. now) ads a brand new 750 cfm carb and a bunch of other new stuff. 275 h.p of fun right there!!

We are stuck trying to get an exact swap Longblock. We tried two different ones with no luck. Any idea of a sure set way to get me the appropriate Longblock.

Just left the gm dealership. I was going to buy a longblock from there. If anything needed changed over we could change it. But I can’t get verification of it will work or not. I just need a solid lead on something that will work as a direct replacement with the computer and all

Since your engine is an EFI engine (Mercruiser mapped MPI) you may have to stick with a Mercrsuiser REMAN or similar.....I am not sure any GM "dealer" could provide the right engine.

If you were going to put a carbureted engine in, you could probably use a wrecking yard Vortec truck engine (with appropriate marine intake, carb, ignition, starter, alt etc)

I would get a reman Mercruiser-type long-block from one of the reputable marine engine rebuilders around the country from if it were me. Preferably local so you can get a local warranty.
