Do you mean it would turn over but not catch, or it would catch but then die after a short period of time?

If you give it some throttle will it stay running?

Also how long has it been doing this?

Can you give it a little extra throttle (throttle only mode) and be able to keep it running?

Need to find out if the fuel pump is loosing power, or something else like the ignition switch is the issue, or something else.

Your motor has at least 2 relays, a main and a fuel pump which has control over the fuel pump.

When you turn the key ON, do you hear the fuel pump run for a couple seconds?
If not, take a volt meter and measure the voltage on the purple wire on the key switch with the key ON

Need to find out if the fuel pump is not running when the motor is cranked over. There is a fitting used to check pressure at the TBI.

Click image for larger version Name:	VP TBI adapter.jpg Views:	1 Size:	23.8 KB ID:	10553750

This is attached inline at the TBI and a gauge can measure fuel pressure.

Can also put a meter on the fuel pump wires and see if the pump come back ON

Also look close at the motor to see if a wire has been removed from a sensor. Replacing the risers could have knocked something off

With spark only thing that keeps it from running is the fuel pump. Might not be turning back on. Either that spark starts and then turns back off. Since it backfires sometimes I would think the fuel pump is turning off

Find the fuel pump relay and swap it with the main relay. They should be the same kind and sitting side by side

Need the motor scanned for codes

Ayuh,..... Welcome Aboard,...... At this point, ya gotta Verify the the fuel pump continues to have Power, after ya left off the key to the run position,.....

It's powered from 2 directions, 1 durin' the Start circuit, the 2nd by the ignition circuit,....
It's workin' durin' the 1st, but not by the 2nd,.....

AD is steerin' ya Right,..... Test at the relays,....
