Tilt and trim conversion???

I have a chance to pick up a 1969 55hp (55esl69a) complete with controls and T&T for $200. Can my 40el75 be modified to use that T&T? The 55 is too big for my boat, plus the wiring is shot on it, so would probably just part the rest out.
