You can put 12 volts across the terminals on the guage (battery disconnected) and see if the needle sweeps.

If it doesn't, remove the sender from the tank and put an OHM meter across the two terminals. See if the needle sweeps as you actuate the float up and down.

Would be good to know which gauge?

Ensure you have 12V and Ground to the gauge. Jump the sender terminal to ground and the meter should peg (full, hot, Up). If it does the gauge is working, if it doesn't the gauge is bad.

If it does peg, go to the sender and ground the sender lead, this should also peg the gauge

Are you sure you have a good ground and a full 12V going to the meter?
When you ground the sender lead on the gauge does the meter peg full?

I' not sure if the ground is good I just put another wire to another bolt with a nut on it under the gauge cluster

Are you checking for 12V with a meter?

Assuming your in the USA?

Your saying, when you ground the sender lead at the gauge, the needle will not peg full, correct?

are you positive you have a full 12 volts measured with a voltmeter and not quessing or measuring with a light? Be sure to measure between the wire you're using the ground from and the 12v on the gauge.

Yeah it has power just won't move the new gauge
