Hi, I got this 1984 70hp mercury outboard 06382231 that i need to replace spark plug wires on.
looking at the serial number i get a part number 812715a1, however this part lists 9" wire - which is not correct length.
when i spoke with mercury they suggested that perhaps wires on my engine are ran in non oem way, but i looked at few videos on youtube and looks like mine are ran same way that others.
my wires are at least 20" long, has anyone had this problem and found a solution?

thanks!

You have a 1983 model.
That "0" doesn't belong at the front of your serial number, seven digits only.

Google it, or take it to your Merc dealer.

Unfortunately, iboats doesn't carry it.

Google it, or take it to your Merc dealer.

It is now a cut to length wire, so it fits many models.

Yes - I made my own with Packard 440 wire. It has a copper core and 7MM insulation. BWD also makes 7MM copper core wire. It's less than a buck a foot at your local auto parts store - Check the national AP store sites.

when i tried to search in parts catalog for my serial without 0 in front - search didn't pull up any results, after that i called mercruiser and they told me to put 0 in front of m serial.
and still if you take what you pasted and google it - u will get same 9" cable

there is one more thing left, i spoke with sierra and they have 18-5229-9-1 that might fit :)

Thats because the Mercury search system only works with newer serial numbers.
