I should note it takes me about 20 min at 6 mph to get out of river into bay to run it. Until that point everything seems perfect.

Looks to be knock sensor. Does that make sense

Its possible because this engine has been replaced last year and they might have left a wire off or routed too close to the spark plug wires. But the knock sensors rarely fail on this engine.

Are you you getting a knock sensor code in your display? If so what code do you get?

That really concerns me. And thank you again for your knowledge and help I’m a little surprised. I was told the gauge was changed which is why the gauge shows lower hours

Ohhh back to code. The only thing the display shows is -Important/check engine. Then goes to see op manual. When I turn it off and restart engine. It clears completely

I'm surprised someone would think that engine hours are stored on the tachometer. As soon as you see the joystick, anybody with Volvo Penta knowledge should know that this is an EVC engine. Engine hours are stored in the ECM and feed to the tach via can bus.

Why are you concerned?
Didn't all this get covered during the prepurchase mechanical inspection?

No one told us about that at all. Surveyor states that appeared the display was changed due to difference in hours.

What display do you have?
I asked earlier.
"Can you look in your operators manual? It will list all the displays that your boat could have. We need to know what display you have so we can see if any fault codes can be accessed."

I'll be honest that I really don't know what info is available on what displays. I have to look that stuff up because I very rarely use them. It's much easier to plug my computer in to access info and set parameters than scroll thru all the menus that some of them have. So at this point I'm not sure if codes can be pulled off of the displays that you have. But it's possible somebody else on this board has been thru this before.

So why do you say "Looks to be knock sensor. Does that make sense" How did you come up with knock sensor?

Most surveyer's don't do the mechanical stuff because it's hard to have the level of expertise needed. But they should be be smart enough to recommend a mechanical inspection when needed.

Maybe we should back up a little here. Has this boat ever run up to full RPMs for you? Or is this a new problem? What did the boat do during it's sea trial?

Maybe post a copy of the survey or PM it to me so we have a baseline to go off of.

no one noted that the engine was replaced prior to you letting me know. Just registered engine mayo me yesterday and Volvo made no note of it to me either

Yes, you have to ask the right questions.

Honestly I did not ask any questions. The woman at the dealership I was at printed out a sheet that showed me supposedly all the actions taken on the boat with Volvo. Which was really nothing. I am new to the warranty thing with boating. I could not do it directly through Volvo. They asked me to go to the nearest dealer so that I could prove ownership and they take over and do all the paperwork. At that point I did not know there were questions to be asked. The paper said no actions , no campaigns. I ran it yesterday after talking with a tech who told me the alarm was lost likely a sensor. It does not go into low rpm mode. This time it beeped once. I pressed ok on the display and the triangle icon stayed but thee were no issues. Went a few miles between 22-35 mph for a little while and she ran smoothly. Have a tech coming hopefully after Labor Day weekend. Thank you for your help. I will def give you aheads up as soon as I know for further assistance to others. Have a great weekend
