Ive heard people say the Force 150 hp 5 cyls are duds, what makes them suck? I know they had a bad batch of pistons and some throw them, surely with new Wiseco or NOS earlier Chrysler pistons that problem would go away? They share the same pot as the late 70 s 4 cylinders, with some old school race car engine tricks you must be able to make them perform I know 3 cyls and 5 cyls respond well to blue printing and balancing, the 150 power head can’t be that much of a pig, in any case I will throw this out to y’all like a cat amongst a flock of pidgeons , nothing wrong with a bit of healthy discussion lol

The 150 ??
Never heard about a bunch of bad pistons??

It was introduced and said to have the best weight to power ratio for all outboards.

The inline 5 initially had cooling problems but not that bad.

Being as they are a carb motor, they are a bit harder on fuel.

Parts are still available.

I'd buy.

What I have heard and read they had issues with the crankshaft which had tendency to crack and snap.

I have nerver worked with a 150Hp soo I have no experience of them.

I was offered a 150 which had dropped a pot he had a second block, I founder another in torn down condition, Id like to stick the power head on an early chrysler leg, extend the original cover, modern crack testing and stress relieving techniques should help, i have a mate who has an X-ray set up at work he can crack test anything, Id stress relieve the rods n lighten up a bit, balance job, new rod bolts and Wiseco pots . Could have fun with one, Ive heard from some they go real hard others say not that good, i think ill grab it and hide it in the shed with my stinger I’m going through at the moment.

I'd buy and keep for resale.
The parts are worth more than a complete motor.

But if it needs 1 piston? fix it and run it.
