Checked my oil tonight and it was milky and was over the full line. I last used it Wednesday, only been on it a couple times this year. It's ran great. My question is, I had it winterized by a local marina last fall. They'e usually pretty good, but last year drug there feet. Assured me they kept it inside when It got colder. I'm going to take it somewhere and have it looked at but I'm thinking i should take it elsewhere to see what it is. Any opinions on that?

Never had this issue before. If the block is cracked, that would be on them, and I'm guessing I'd have take them to court unless they own up to it. Which I doubt. I'm planning on doing a compression check after I change the oil, but after that I'm pretty clueless. Anything else I should do?

Pressure test the cooling system, not compression test the cylinders

Good luck with the marina. Sine you didnt notice the issue right away, you will have an up-hill battle

It is cracked engine block season, so have at it with the marina. Make sure you have good records of when you brought the boat there for winterization and when they actually winterized it. Also the daily temperature records for your area.

The shop may try to make it all your fault. Let us know when you are scheduled to be on Judge Judy :thumb:

If you have the receipt for them winterizing it, take it to them and tell them there's water in the oil after they "winterized" it.

Let them pressure check it (or tell you that it's fine) before taking it someplace else for pressure checking.

Then get a lawyer to write them a letter with results and requirements.

They need to own up to it if they "drug their feet"

I dropped it off at a different marina this afternoon. I half ass don't trust the other marina now. With that being said I have a few days to get it back before they start working on it. At this point i was just having them give me a diagnosis. My mind has been spinning and I'm kinda doing some knee jerk reactions. My grandma passed this week, then I find this. I need to slow down.

something I didn't think about at the time is, a bolt fell out of the alterator. When I used it Wednesday the belt squealed when I started it up for maybe 20 seconds or so. Didn't think much about it at the time. Thought i got a little water on the belt the day before when I was doing a little cleaning. On the way back to dock i noticed a rattle i hadnt heard before and thats when i discovered the bolt. That belt drives the water pump as well. Is there any type if seal in the water pump that could get messed up if that belt wasn't running properly? Allowing water to get in? I was looking at the manual that I downloaded but I haven't seen if there's a way for water to get in that way.

As far as dragging there feet. I dropped it end of September got it back first week of December. I have tags on the trailer saying as much. Plus my receipt. I shoulda grabbed it back from them and took it somewhere else after I went up there 3 times to see what's up. They never let me down the previous 2 years. Should I get it back and take it to the original marina? I'm going to talk to a lawyer buddy of mine as well. Hopefully tomorrow.

Where is the boat? Just curious, I never wait until December to drain the block and manifolds, but some years I could have here in Dallas area. I start feeling weird if I have not done it before November (North Texas). In Kansas it was after the last trip in mid October every year. Good luck with everything.

So let's take your approximate location (or at least where the boat was) and look back at the recorded daily low temperatures for that area, via the weather channel or other source. That might provide some information, either confirming or dispelling the freeze damage theory.

Where was the boat, approximately?

I'm in northern Michigan. It was below freezing. I talked to them numerous times and the supposively put it in their heated barn. I can't confirm when they did. I drove there a couple times and it did get moved, but I don' know where to. I'm expecting cracked block. I didn't take it back to them because I don' trust them at this point. Should I go and get it back from the place I dropped it at and take it to the original?

Bottom line is if the block is cracked, you WILL be replacing the engine block either in the form of a new engine, long block or bare block etc.

You also should replace the riser and manifold (because I would never put a used riser and manifold on a new engine )

If they waited until DEC in Northern MI to drain the block and didn't store the boat out of freezing weather, they caused the problem. Your only hope is (for your lawyer friend) to convince them they're liable

looks like the cold snaps were November 9-11 and Dec 6-16, For those 10 days in December, it never broke the freezing mark. . . night time temps in the teens on some night.
