I’m having issues fellas. Serial number 2770131. Called dB electrical for a starter they can’t pull anything up and the lady on the phone was rude and didn’t have a clue. I’m under the assumption that the straight across bolt patter are all universal which I found dB part number 6788 which I think is the correct one. aside from the later model 14 inch flywheel. 1970 165 i6 mercruiser. Thanks in advance fellas.

straight across pattern is for 153 tooth flywheel staggered pattern is for the bigger168 tooth flywheel

most likely you need the straight across pattern for your 250 cube 6-cylinder.

Ayuh,.... The I-6s I see are the small flywheel, straight across bolt patterned starters,.....

The Chevy starters only come in 2 flavors, so pick a copy of what you've got,.....

A little inflated but what about alternator? I know I will be needing one before too long and if I can’t get anyone to find a starter I bet I’m not going to find a alternator. DB has one that’s v belt gm 1 wire I believe.

stay away from the one-wire alternators in a boat. I prefer a separate sense wire coming off the ignition switch

Agree, try to stay away from one wires. I have one on the shelf (100 AMP) and removed after some issues. Even converted to since leads and still had over charge issues (but that's another story)

Just because your ALT is old doesn't mean it won't work for a very long time still. Even if it does die, getting it rebuilt can be easier then getting another.

Starters are not hard to find even for the marine straight bolt pattern

I personally would take both your starter and alternator to your local starter/alternator repair shop. many times a simple $10 brush change or a diode is all that is needed

Ok thank you guys! What’s funny is when they ask for the serial number and I tell them it won’t do any good and then we go back and forth and finally I give them my serial number and they just get quiet and ask me if that’s a real serial number haha. Gotta love when people don’t have a clue. Especially since I told them the serial number isn’t going to do any good hahahaha
