Hi i just got a Force 150 hp, but i cant seam to find the model number anywhere.

I think it has been a tag on it but that has gone away before i got the engine.

Am also looking for a manual whit wiring diagrams so i know where to put all the cabels, if anybody has one or a good recomendation.

Just got this engine, it has been sitting for 4 years so am looking to put it on my boat anything i should think of before starting it.
The service history is good, as it has been served every year by a mechanic

Will be adding pictures in tomorrow, what kind is needed

Thanks in advance for all the help.

Pics of the ignition system will help a lot.

The 150Hp was introduced in 1988 and with the Prestolite ignition system (blue CDI boxes and coils)
Later Brunswick (Mercury) started to put their own parts on the Force engines.

I think but not sure the 150Hp was gone in 1993-94 because Force had a 120Hp 4 cylinder, which was lighter and had good performance.

Personally, before putting it on at least do a compression test on all cylinders. Check the gear oil make sure it is clear and bright and not milky or grayish. And lastly, replace the water impeller with a new one for two reason; you do not know how old is the installed one and second for a reference on when to replace.

Just because the unit didn't ran for 4 years doesn't mean the impeller was never worn out. I believe 3 years is the shelf life. Impellers are recommended to be replaced every year or every other year depending how many hours the boat ran. I do it every other year for I only use it in the summer.

The 150 was touted to be the best weight to HP of all the motors made in the year it was introduced.
Lots of power but Mercury took over and stopped making them.
I guess they wanted to sell theirs for more $$

Post pics of the transom assy. the ignition and trim pump.
We can get close to the year that way.

Under the packs and coils on the block there is a foundry stamp.
The center has the year that the block was made.
That will get you close.

I also tested compression on the engine, full throttle and cold.

top to bottom on the block
Cylinder 1: 150 PSI
Cylinder 2: 145 PSI
Cylinder 3: 138 PSI
Cylinder 4: 145 PSI
Cylinder 5: 145 PSI

Will change impeller to was very hard but looked super fresh.

If i lack any pictures i can take more and post.

Is there any way to increase the throttle without putting in a gear?

Thanks for all the help so far

From the ignition it looks like a 91.
They use both Prestolite and Mercury in 91.
The later models used Mercury.

Setting up the idle, no.
It's a safety thing.
The towershaft is where you can set up the idle.

Yes, you can.
On the typical Force controls, you pull the handle away from the controls, to the left, then you are able to advance the throttle without the shift cable moving.

I need to hang it on the boat first to see if it fires up properly.
It has a marked 4 when i took off the gear housing so i suspect its a type D from what i can see from the parts list and picture.
Dont know if this helps to identify age.

Am a bit lost as to what parts i need to have to mount the propeller on properly to.

I have the nut, lock for nut, and a big washer. is there anything else missing?

If the prop nuts are like Chrysler there a nylock nut, do not reuse it, go get a new one, wash the propshaft with petrol and remove the old gronky grease, I use moly grease on mine, fit prop with new nut don’t forget the thrust washer.
u mentioned a lock tab for the prop nut, sounds a bit like a Merc set up, if you use a new nylock you shouldn’t need the lock tab but I might be playing with myself with that, I’m doing my prop tomorrow.

I just assumed you knew about the fast idle Roscoe mentioned?
There can be three ways to put a Chrysler/Force prop on.
Need pics of your setup.
Look at a parts diagram?
My 88/85 came with a thick thrust washer/ prop/splined thick washer/flat washer/then the nylock nut.

I will take a picture tomorrow when i am with the engine.

I looked at the diagram and it looks like i have a type D gearbox.

The remote controll i have is an old chrysler one whit only key in it, so ill modify it to support the alarm and trim switch.

Anybody have the electrical diagram of installing key and tachometer to the engine, the harness from the engine to the remote was gone when i bought it, so its a hassle to figure out what cable goes to what.

I think this is the washers thats hanging on the propshaft right now whit a propnut too.
Ill probably order new ones when i know its the right ones, would not want to lose the propeller the first i do.

The pics show the Mercury style prop locker.
It looks like your missing a part, the nut and spider washer set in a splined spacer.
Then the arms of the spider get bent down and lock it in place.

Sent you a pm.

The thick washer behind against the lower unit looks like the thrust hub washer.
You are missing the splined washer.
You can look up parts for your motor on this site.
Go to the SHOP tab and open it.
Follow the prompts and try to end up in 1992-1994 Force 150
Part# 64 is what your missing.
Mercury WASHER F697299
