89 15ft bayliner capri with 80hp merc project

Hi everyone new to the forum and pretty much the whole working on boat scene and looking for recommendations/suggestions. I purchased a 89 15ft bayliner capri in decent shape and am in process of putting a 1979 80hp mercury on it. Have motor and throttle control mounted. Next to due is mount the hydraulic for the trim. I'm wondering what a decent fairly priced trim switch would be. Also, am looking for input on what prop would work best for setup. Looking more for top speed. Any advice very much appreciated!

There's a LOT of variables that go into selecting a prop. You might find this informative.

Trim switches are typically matched with the outboard. I'd recommend getting the Model # of your motor and then researching the correct Trim switch for it. They do make universal switches also.

depends on what your RPM is right now......however in 99.99% of the cases, to get more top speed....you need more motor

I`m new to boating, but I would Measure the boat Bow to stern and make sure it's 15 feet to verify it's a capri 1500. Both the 1400 and 1500 came with a Force 50HP. I know on the 1400, the boat is built and recommended for nothing bigger than a 50HP. 1989 I would be very suspicious of the condition of the transom,based on age, before mounting a 85 Hp on it. WOT with a over rated motor on a suspicious transom can easily send the boat to the bottom. However Capri was mounting the 85HP Force on at least the 1600

If by trim switch we're talking about the On OFF On electric switch. I' say you`re looking at $11 for the basic.
