I have been reading on this for months, but still get conflicting information.

1. I am using Epoxy, so dont need the mat at all, correct?

2. All I need for the stringers is tabbing, correct? Since epoxy can waterproof without mat or cloth, there is no need to encapsulate them right?

3. Since I dont need mat for the epoxy, I was just going to use 17oz Biaxial with no mat.

Correct that you don't need mat with epoxy ……. just the 17oz biaxial. I ran the biaxial to the top edge of my stringers and coated the very tops thoroughly with several coats of epoxy before laying the floor on top of them. I have an inboard so there are areas that do not get covered by the floor so I did lay a layer of 6oz biaxial over the top in those areas for peace of mind and nicer finished look.

Good luck with your restore and make sure to give us some pics to look at as you go along.

Semi Correct. Epoxy by itself is fairly strong but...Stringers need strength to resist flexing so you should still use two layers of the 17oz biax to tab the stringers to the hull. Go 1/2 way up with the first layer and all the way to the top with the second. Really no need to use glass to go over the top to water proof. If you're doing transom it's the same thing. Two layers of the 17oz biax

Sorry, you noted that you have been reading on the forum for awhile so I just assumed that you knew two layers for tabbing..... If you have not read it yet, the Fabricating Decks, Stringers, and Transoms link in Woodonglass' above post has a lot of great information and is what I followed to redo my stringers and transom.

Yes, I was figuring on at least 2 layers for tabbing. Just wanted to make sure there was no need to go all the across the top.

What about on the transom? Just tabbing as well, right? No need to cover the entire thing with biax is there?

i'd Highly recommend that you do a Full Two Layer application of the 17oz fabric across the entire transom..Tabbings only MIGHT be ok but as stated in post #3 the Glass is Where the strength is and a transom needs as much strength as possible. Read my link on Stringers, Decks and transoms.
