Oil filter location?

Hello!
I am looking to do an oil change on my boat for the first time but I can't find the filter. Looking at other mercruiser's it looks like it should be on the top or side but mine is not. The only filter I was able to locate is the fuel filter. I also looked through the manual but it only explains how to do the oil change. Any idea where it is?

Always try to indicate at least the year of the motor

It is either on the bottom port (left) side of the motor at the rear, or there are lines on it from that location to a remote location

Got it! Will keep in mind for future post.

And okay I see. I didn't even think to look back there. Do I need any special tools or does it just screw off?

I just unscrews off, but many use an oil filter wrench to remove. To install new, coat the new rubber seal with a thin film of oil (most use their finger and rub some on). Screw on till gasket touches, then hand tighten 3/4 turn more. Does not need to be super tight, just good and snug

LOL, Yea, to bad they couldn't have found a more difficult place to put it😈 on some boats you can barely get your hand down there much less unscrew an oil filter. They should have put it behind the engine or some other difficult location.

if the filter is mounted under the motor, it's gonna be a messy job. Change it when the engine is cool. Put a doubled-up plastic trash bag under it so the oil will spill into it. When you unscrew the old filter, just let it drop into the bag. Then you can (hopefully) carefully pull the bags out without dumping it all into the bilge.

If you ever have occasion to remove the engine, mount up a remote oil filter. Mine have 'em and I'm really happy that somebody did that.

You may want to consider getting a relocation kit. It makes life a lot easier.

Good idea! Will definitely be taking that advice. All the oil won't come out that way though right? I will be using a pump and from what I've heard the oil needs to be warmed up, will pumping it cool still work?

from the top you turn it clockwise to remove and CCW to install the new one.

get a cheap pillow or moving blanket and place on top of the motor, makes it feel better as you lay across the motor to reach it.

Yes, it's best to run the engine first to warm up the oil. Especially if you plan to use a pump through the dip stick tube.

Do the warm oil pump out and after the motor cools, then take off the filter. The only oil in the motor at that point is in the filter, but it's still messy.
