Hi all I got a 89 Bayliner capri for free from my in-laws ran great last year . So far I cleaned up the carbs and all that and took it out and it had no power took forever to get up to 4k rpm then after a trip around the lake I pulled up to the dock and it would not start back up was even will to pop and fart at all where should I start. Also is there and heap easy mods to help make it have some more pep? I know this boats not worth investing much into with the bad rep motor and all but it'd be really nice to have something useable for the next summer or two

No-one can tell you just how bad that motor is unless you tell folks here what brand and size it is.

which motor in your '89 bayliner?

Force Outboard?
OMC I/O? 2.3, 3.0? 4.3?

Do a compression and spark test.
Then post the info on the boat/motor and test results.

Your engine popped and farted :noidea: :D

Maybe take another run at telling us the engine and the issue/symptoms. All I got out of what you said is that the boat used to run fine . . . you cleaned the carburetors . . . and now it runs like poop. I'd be re-tracing your steps with the carburetors.

Also guessing it is a OB, based on 'carburetors' . . .

Ok let's try this again. My inlaws bought a 89 Bayliner capri they had a shop completely service it and it ran great all last summer other then it was hard to start after cruising for a while. Then they parked it for the winter. They went to take it out this summer and it would only idle and had no power after about a 1/4 throttle. They bought a new boat and gave it to me. I took the carbs apart cleaned them and took it out and it has very little power at full throttle it'd get up to about 25. After cruising the lake for about 15 or 20 minutes I took it back and docked it while getting the truck backed into the water and it refused to start it turned over fine just didn't fire. I did not mess with it then I just pulled it on the trailer with a rope and hand winch. Now my question is where should I start with the no start

Yeah it's a L drive but at that I'm still hoping to be able to get it running good for this summer and maybe next

The motor and gear housing are the same as all the other 125 /120
Makes no difference if it's the H$%& drive or not.

The basics: compression, spark tests.
Gotta do them FIRST!!!

Post the results.

No spark: kill switch? magnet in flywheel loose? key in flywheel sheared?
outboardignitiondotcom has test procedures for your ignition system.
Has spark: water in the fuel? bad fuel pump?

Do the recommended tests and post the results.

Information is the key: we all asked what the motor was and you never included that info.
I figured it out from the pic.
ANYTHING you can think of might help?
