Dealer installed, gimble bearing and bellows?

I'm having the Gimble bearing and bellows replaced in my Alpha 1 gen 2 mercruiser. I had taken the out
drive off already. How many hrs. to install? I thought it best being I didn't have the tool to check alignment.

Given there's no problems, gimbal bearing replacement is about 20 to 30 minutes, bellows is about 1.5 to 2 hours... give or take....

Well I picked up my boat yesterday... And they Charged me for 5 hours!!! 515.00 labor!! I should have bought the alignment tool myself! NOT HAPPY. All they did was install Gimble bearing and bellows. I had the out drive off.

The shop has a book standard of hours to charge for each specific procedures, and that is what they charged. Lesson learned, go DIY from now on as much as you can. BTW, from what I know about what all has to be removed, and all that can go wrong with R&R for the drive bellows, I might pay that much for a good job, just sayin'.

book labor is about 6 hours

they gave you an hour for the drive removal which is normally about 1/2 hour

I kind of thought achris's answer was light. But achris is from Oz. Their clocks run backwards part of the time because of the screwed up magnetic fields down there.

I don't think you got screwed, other than that you definitely should have done the job yourself. Done right, it can take some time cleaning everything up and prepping for install.
