How many member here own multiple boats?

Sometimes you simply like what you like and there are a couple of advantages in a wakeboard boat over an I/O. First, they are very roomy. Second, with an inboard, the prop is not exposed. This is nice if you have kids who inherently like jumping off the back of the boat.

That said, they are disadvantages too. I compare it to buying a Corvette over a Buick sedan. A Buick being far more practical, but missing a certain "wow" factor. Wakeboard boats have always had a "wow" factor for me.

you are so right, and too many times you get criticism for motors to small or to big or wrong boat for what you want. I say its your boat, your money and your time spent on the water. Enjoy and create memories for the kids. My grand kids talk all winter long about grandpas boat and summer drives down the lake to get ice cream.

down to 4 right now. the Cruisers (awaiting the rain to stop so I can re-gel the hull), the 14' fishing barge, the kayak and the canoe.

as far as a wakeboard boat goes.....they are great for wakeboarding. however there are other boats I would consider long before spending money on a wakeboard boat.

There are tons of brand new Wake boats on my lake...you can tell when the economy is booming just by the boats as they ebb and flow. When the economy is in a bust mode, the big boats and expensive boats seem to vanish. I love the sinister look of the wake boats and that they have superior technology versus even a 5 year old bowrider. We just wouldn't be wakesurfers though my kids are the prime age to do it, and can get way more bang for the buck from a bowrider. I also don't like the low slung bow of the wake boats that are seemingly always on the verge of taking a wave over the bow. I guess to some extent, that why everyone on my lake has multiple boats each fitting a specific purpose. The wake boats only gets used when wake surfing.

Buddy recently picked up a 2018 Malibu 21 VLX. Surfed behind it for the first time this last weekend. I'm glad it's him making the payments and not me, but good lord is that thing cool.

I feel better now. Only two at the moment I used to keep a row boat that could be drug into mountain lakes but im getting old enough now that I dont have the desire to be dragging a boat to a remote lake.

I would just like to know if you've had a chance to drive a straight inboard? Docking and maneuvering in close places can be a real treat with much in the way of current or wind. There's a definite knack to it that some struggle with/really never catch on to.

They can't be that hard to get used to....they are everywhere.

Agreed. Intent was to point out they are different, very different. You need to pay attention to things like which way the boat is going to go when you put it in reverse vs. forward due to "prop walk", the use of momentum, etc. You are not gong to figure one out in a day. Most driving inboards have been around boats for a while. Myself, I enjoy the challenge! Nothing better than the satisfaction of putting an inboard exactly where it needs to go on the first try....

The one we used to have was kept on a 40' dock, with the bow facing the lake. That often made for some "interesting" docking conditions. You do, eventually, get very good at it. Driving about ANYTHING else from that point is a cake walk.

I usually have one or two additional project boats going as well but I am currently empty.
Looking for my next winter project as I usually restore at least one boat per winter.

I am amazed at not only the cost, but how big the newer ones are out of the water. I went "gaga" over a Malibu Wakesetter the first time that I saw one. Oddly enough, I get smitten with a product very rarely.

I really don't think that I could enjoy a boat costing over 100k. I would be too worried about damaging it.

To me it seems like insanity to spend 100k on a boat, sink it halfway and go 5 MPH.

The SkiFlite for going out with other people, and the Caddy is for solo cruising and fishing. I love having an easy option that I can load and unload all by myself in 10 seconds without any hassle. “Oh, it’s not lined up on the roller? Let me put my beer down and lift it up onto the roller.”
