torque for y pipe bolts

The Doctur Bt Doctur can be a bit grouchy, but he's right. There is little load on this joint. Minimal engine movement is handled by the engine mounts. The exhaust rubber hoses isolate the Y tube. Go with the spec.

That is a accepted torque for a 3/8" UNC screw, as per just about any screw torque chart you'd like to consult. (Here's one I prepared earlier)

It's not about being grouchy. You asked if that torque was correct (for some reason you didn't believe the service manual :noidea, and now you're here saying you think it's too light. :facepalm:

Just kidding ...i was not sure I was getting the right info. When you look in the manual on the list of fasteners and torque, I think it lists the bolts I'm talking about as exhaust bolts or something else just as vague...just want to make sure I have the right bolts and torque.I had to cut the y pipe off and get the rset of it off when I pulled the transom asy. because someone did over tighten them so I get it.

I removed my Bud's 24 yr old factory installed Y pipe. I was afraid I was going to twist off the cap screws. Corrosion. I used anti seize when we reassembled his, and later mine

Mine were not corroded at all- someone had just really put them on tight. Perhaps to try and stop the leak I have been chasing since purchased. Guess I will see if I have it solved in the am....lord I hope so! I've been out of the water for over a year.

So..my roaring leak is down to a trickle...assume either at the y pipe or the trim manifold...crap.

Nah, bellows done, they were not leaking. Transom asy was removed and transom inspected and all good there.
