Im rebuilding this engine, 1993 4.3 v6 GM. I noticed that 2002 4.3 v6 has a rocker arm support piece that goes under the rocker arms. However the 1993 block does not seem to have any support. Or is this part just missing, since the heads for this block I bought separately and the previous owner had some parts of the heads disassembled. So the question is, on the 1993 4.3 v6 with the balanced shaft engine, is there a rocker arms support or not? Thx

yes, I do realize that one engine had vortec heads with a bunch of differences from the older heads and the other not, but my question is, in 1993 4.3 v6 heads is there any rocker arm support or not. In my manual I did not see any for the older heads, and looks like the rocker arms go straight on the head body. But I want to be sure since the rocker arms in this case are rubbing right on the heads iron. Thank you.

I think your going to need to use roller rockers and cam, unless someone has another option

Different style studs/rockers, etc. starting in 1996

your 1993 heads need 1992-1995 parts (adjustable rockers)
your 2003 heads use 2000-2007 parts (non-adjustable rockers)

your '93 heads should have a threaded stud, rocker, ball, and a nut.
your '03 heads should have taller towers with threaded holes, roller rockers and bolts.

Thank you Scott, I think that is how I had it on the v8 1993 engine I rebuild before and the other 1993 4.3 v6 without the balanced shaft. Just wanted to be sure before I start the engine. Thank you. And since I'm going to check in the machine shop about exhaust manifolds i will also check about the rockers.

No rocker arm supports on non-vortec heads.

The rockers do not rub on the head. While there is nothing between the head and the rocker, the valve spring and the lifter are both pushing it away from the head at each end, so it should never actually touch the head. All the movement is against the ball inside the rocker.
